Austin Wranglers News Release
Austin (February 8, 2005)âThe Austin Wranglers look to four-year AFL veteran quarterback John Fitzgerald to assume the starting position on the team after Head Coach Skip Foster placed Bobby Pesavento on Injured Reserve. Fitzgerald started all 16 regular-season contests with the 2004 Southern Division Champion New Orleans VooDoo. He led the team to an 11-5 record in their inaugural season, completing 279 of 488 pass attempts for 3,425 yards and 61 touchdowns.
"I have the utmost confidence in John being ready to play for us ever since he reported to training camp," said Coach Foster. "His professionalism in preparing for the Tampa Bay game allowed him to step in and play last Sunday. It shows his true character as a professional football player and we're looking forward to him leading the Wranglers Friday against the Avengers."
The Wranglers have also enlisted the help of QB Scott Dreisbach as a reserve quarterback. Dreisbach attended training camp with the Dallas Desperados and was released prior to the start of the regular season. The three-year AFL veteran has completed 54-84 pass attempts for 652 yards and 11 touchdowns, garnering a 105.9 AFL passer rating.
"Scott is a three-year veteran who has played behind quality quarterbacks in the Arena Football League," said Coach Foster. "We have another experienced player at the number two quarterback position."
To complete the roster moves, the Wranglers have placed two additional players on Injured Reserve, FB/LB Jeremy Beutler and OL/DL Jamie Lovern. The Wranglers have activated WR/LB-OS David Hill and OL/DL Ramon Richardson from Injured Reserve and OL/DL Marcus McKenzie from the practice squad. WR/DB Jarrail Jackson was released from the Wranglers 24-man active roster and P.J. Winston was released from the Wranglers Injured Reserve. The Wranglers signed QB Michael Wall and OL/DL Robert Clayton to the practice squad.
