Washington, D.C. - Washington Spirit defender Anna Heilferty will miss the entire 2023 season due to a knee injury, the club announced today. Heilferty recently signed a new two-year contract with the Spirit with a team option for 2025.

Heilferty, who hails from Falls Church, Va., will remain with the team throughout her recovery in 2023 and continue her community work with DC's Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). As the first-ever Ambassador to Sustainable D.C., Heilferty's role focuses on project development and promotional planning, helping to raise general awareness and response to environmental issues facing the nation's capital as well as the rest of the world.

In 2022, her second professional season, Heilferty earned 21 caps and played 1,486 minutes during the regular season, assisting on two goals. She played in all eight Challenge Cup matches.

The Spirit opens the 2023 regular season hosting OL Reign on Sunday, March 26 at Audi Field. The club announced earlier this season that all 14 home matches will be played for the first time at Audi Field in Buzzard Point, ensuring players and fans alike access to a facility befitting a professional club. Fans can secure tickets now to all 2023 home matches with a season membership. Available here, the season membership grants fans access to priority seating, an exclusive Trinity Rodman bobblehead, invitations to special events throughout the season and more. Single game tickets are also on sale now.
