FAIRBANKS, ALASKA. âThe U.S. National Under-17 Team won Friday night (April 1), 4-2, in game one of the first round of their playoff series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
Fairbanks got on the board first, before a power-play tally from Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) at 17:37 of the first period. Fairbanks would add another goal, taking a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
Second period action saw one score, as Patrick Kane would add his second goal of the evening. The second period would end in a 2-2 tie.
Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) and Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) added U.S. goals in the third period which resulted in a 4-2 U.S. win.
Patrick Kane led all scorers in the contest with two points (1G, 1PPG). Zach MacVoy (Livonia, Mich.) and Kevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.) also put out a two-point performance (2A).
U.S. goaltender Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) faced 51 shots, pushing aside 49.
