Thunder unveils 12th annual summer youth camp schedule
January 26, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Minnesota Thunder News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Wednesday, January 26, 2005) - The Minnesota Thunder announced today its most extensive camp schedule in the 12-year history of its youth development program. The Thunder is offering its popular summer camp program, attended by more that 2,000 kids last year, in 31 metro-area locations for boys and girls ages 5-18. This includes a newly reestablished camp in Blaine at the Blaine Soccer Complex.
Thunder summer soccer camps are directed by Thunder head coach Buzz Lagos and director of youth development and assistant coach Tim Carter. Camps begin in April and run throughout the summer months. For a complete 2005 camp schedule and to register online, visit www.mnthunder.com/camps.
Thunder soccer camps are the most popular day camp in Minnesota with the uniqueness of Thunder professional players coaching each and every camp. All Thunder campers will receive an evaluation, a soccer ball, and an official camp t-shirt.
"All of our camps provide a challenging and enjoyable experience for any level of player," said Carter. "We encourage players to sign up early and take advantage of the April 15 early-bird discount."
Anybody who registers for a Thunder camp by April 15 will receive a $10 discount. The Thunder also offers a multiple family member discount of $10 that is awarded when two or more campers from the same family register.
The Thunder offers three different camps, including Day, Senior and Youth Residential, and Striker-Goalkeeper.
Day camps are divided into separate programs designed specifically for boys and girls ages 5-14 by dividing players by age, gender, and ability. The Kickers program is designed for players ages 5-6, Developmental for ages 7-8, Skill Builder for ages 9-10, and Advanced for ages 11-14.
Camps are designed to offer individuals the best possible learning environment. Having a 13:1 camper to coach ratio, the Thunder camps allow for extended one on one contact. The wide variety of camps offers something for every youth player, according to Carter.
The Minnesota homegrown staff includes players Dustin Branan (Lakeville), Amos Magee (St. Paul), Joe Warren (Bloomington), and Mike Madigan (St. Paul). Other Thunder players on staff will include Johnny Menyongar, Chris Brunt, Zafer Kilickan, and Freddy Juarez.
SUBWAY has been named the Official Food Partner of all Minnesota Thunder Day Camps. On Thursdays, campers can join in on a SUBWAY sandwich party for lunch and will receive a sandwich and a drink.
Campers complete their summer soccer experience by taking part in the Camp Reunion Night, presented by SUBWAY. All Thunder campers will receive a complimentary ticket to the Thunder's home game on Saturday, August 13, against the Portland Timbers. Campers will join the Thunder players for a commemorative camp reunion photo prior to the game and will be recognized at halftime as a Thunder camper in front of family and friends.
Cost of the camps will be as follows:

Half Day Camps (9 am-12 pm, Mon-Fri.) $135
