Thunder Defeat Wings in Close Game

Edinburg, Texas - Nelson Teilon brought home the go-ahead run to give the McAllen Thunder (27-45) the lead in the sixth inning, as the McAllen Thunder hung on to beat the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (40-31) 3-2 on Wednesday.

Yasser Gomez singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to third on a double by newcomer Fidel Hernandez. Finally, Teilon came to the plate with the McAllen Thunder trailing by one in the sixth inning, and singled, scoring Gomez.

Henry Gonzalez paced the McAllen Thunder at the plate. Gonzalez went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Alex Smith (3-2) picked up the win for the McAllen Thunder. Smith pitched eight innings and allowed two runs, seven hits and striking out one.

Coleman Stephens (5-4) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.

The Thunder will open a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners as the road team on Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
