PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Brown, Arkansas Travelers
.600, 15-25, 8 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, .630 OBP, 1.120 SLG
Matt Brown had one of the most impressive weeks in the Texas League this season. He had a hit in all seven games and multiple hits in six of seven. On June 14th he had his best game of the week. In a 6-5 win over Corpus Christi, Brown went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. He followed that up with another multi-double game, smacking two on the 15th. Brown also had an RBI in six of seven games, and finished the week with 10.
Brown is currently enjoying a career year in which he is on pace to set career highs in several categories. After hitting just .233 in Low-A Cedar Rapids in 2004 and .262 in High-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2005, Brown is batting .321 through 92 games this season. In addition, his strikeouts per at-bat are down and walks per at-bat are up. He is also hitting for more power, with his 12 home runs and 33 doubles this year, he should easily beat last year's marks of 12 homers and 39 doubles.

After the Missions tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run by right fielder Mike Christoff, neither team scored until the Sports pushed two runs across in the top of the eighteenth. July 19, 1937 A persistent breeze blowing in from the outfield did not seem to bother either team as Oklahoma City and Galveston combined to knock out nine home runs in an 11-8 win for the Indians at Moody Stadium. Galveston clean-up hitter Joe Dooley started the long-ball barrage with a three-run homer in the first inning. He would follow with three consecutive triples, finishing the game a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI's. July 23, 1955 After losing the opening game of a twin-bill at Fort Worth by a 4-3 score, San Antonio fought back to take the second game 3-1, but needed 15 innings to do it. In the long second game, the Missions scored a run in the first inning, then were shutout by the Cats over the next 13 innings until pushing across the winning runs in the 15th.
