ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 1, 2015) - Wednesday night was a night to remember for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and their fans - and the perfect way to kick off the North American Soccer League season.
Action on the field starts this weekend with the Rowdies in Texas to face the reigning NASL Champion San Antonio Scorpions, but Rowdies fans, players and staff gathered at the Mahaffey Theater on Wednesday night for a celebration before the season officially kicks off.
A large crowd of nearly 1,000 Rowdies fans packed the Mahaffey to hear from Rowdies President and General Manager Farrukh Quraishi, as well as Head Coach Thomas Rongen, captain Marcelo Saragosa and others in a fun evening of festivities.
The highlight of the night, though, was the debut of the Rowdies' all-new Nike jerseys for the 2015 season. The primary kit features iconic green and gold hoops throughout the entire shirt, rather than just the sleeves. The Rowdies wore a fully-hooped jersey in 2010, their first season since returning. The secondary kit features a bright sunshine yellow shirt, similar to last year's popular alternate kit. The two goalkeeper kits are royal blue and kelly green. All four jerseys are adorned with the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino Tampa Bay logo across the front.
The ceremony also featured introductions for every player, as well a preseason highlights video and the director's cut of the #WeStandForSoccer commercial that's been airing on local TV in recent weeks ahead of the Rowdies' home opener against Minnesota United FC on April 11 at Al Lang Stadium.
Once the formal presentation ended, Rowdies players and staff hit the Mahaffey lobby for an hour of meeting, greeting and selfie-taking with the fans.
The Rowdies open their home slate April 11 against Minnesota United FC in downtown St. Pete. Fans will enjoy all the action at the newly renovated Al Lang Stadium, complete with larger pitch, new seating, improved concessions and more. 2015 season tickets are available now and start at just $160 for all 15 home games.
