Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Fresno Tacos (42-37) utilized a late rally to bury the Round Rock Chupacabras (30-39) 6-1 in Sunday afternoon's Copa de la Diversión celebration at Dell Diamond.
Chupacabras RHP Connor Sadzeck (3-3, 4.18) was saddled with the loss after he granted Fresno the lead in the sixth inning. Overall, Sadzeck was responsible for just one earned run on two hits and a walk in 1.2 frames on the mound. Tacos starter RHP Rogelio Armenteros (5-0, 3.47) earned the win as he wove together 5.0 innings of one-run ball in which he allowed seven men to reach base on four hits and three walks.
Round Rock starter LHP David Hurlbut turned in one of his best outings of the season in a no decision, holding the Fresno offense to one earned run on three hits over 5.1 frames. The southpaw has failed to gift more than three earned runs in each of his last three starts, good for a 3.52 ERA over that span.
After being held hitless through the first four frames, the Chupacabras made sure they avoided another no-hitter scare when 1B Tommy Joseph opened the bottom of the fifth with a 412-foot solo shot off the home run porch in left to put Round Rock ahead 1-0. Joseph's 15th longball of the season puts him in a three-way tie for fourth place on the PCL home run leaderboard.
Hurlbut retired Tacos 1B A.J. Reed on his 93rd pitch of the afternoon for the first out of the sixth before handing things over to Sadzeck. With a runner on first, Tacos 2B Jack Mayfield laced a double into the gap in left-center that reset the score at 1-1. After Mayfield advanced to third on the relay throw to the plate, Sadzeck walked Fresno LF Derek Fisher before allowing the Tacos to take a 2-1 lead when 3B Nick Tanielu punched an RBI single into right.
Fresno would put together a four-run rally in the top of the ninth, highlighted by J.D. Davis' booming ground rule double off Chupacabras reliever RHP R.J. Alvarez that plated a pair. After Davis extended the gap to 5-1, the Tacos added an extra insurance run when Ibanez committed an error on a pop fly behind third base that brought Davis home from second, settling the final score at 6-1.
Rehabbing Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus went 0-2 with two walks in the final leg of his minor league rehab stint.
The two clubs will revert to their original nicknames for Monday night's game three matchup at Dell Diamond. with Grizzlies RHP Josh James (1-2, 2.36) scheduled to face an Express pitcher yet to be announced. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
