
Swamp Foxes Select Vixens Dance Team

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston Swamp Foxes and dance team choreographer Karen Delamere today announced the selections for the 2003 Vixens dance team. The group consists of 21 dancers, 11 of which are returning from the inaugural 2002 squad.
The Vixens are an integral part of the Swamp Foxes' Arena Football experience, performing at every 2003 home game and making numerous appearances around the Lowcountry.
The Vixens first appearance will be on Thursday, March 6 as a part of the 2003 Mountain Dew Southern Conference Men and Women's basketball tournament. The performance will take place at halftime of the second game of the second session at the North Charleston Coliseum, at approximately 9:30 pm.
Your first chance to catch the entire Vixens squad in action will be March 27, when the Swamp Foxes take on the Macon Knights in an exhibition game. The game is free to the public, and fans are encouraged to donate canned goods at the gate to benefit the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Karen (choreographer) is originally from Grifton, NC, just outside of Greenville, NC and is a founding member of the Vixens dance team. She studied ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, and modern dance at the NC Academy of Dance Arts where she was also a member of the Dance Arts Theatre Ballet Company. Karen has performed leading roles in presentations of "The Nutcracker," "Petrushka," and "Rodeo." She received her BFA at East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) in Theatre Arts and Dance Performance. Professionally, she has been a featured performer at King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, The Carolina Opry, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Karen was also a Radio City Rockette for five years. In addition to coaching the Vixens, Karen has performed and choreographed for the North Charleston Lowgators "Gator Patrol," and she is currently the dance coordinator for LifeQuest Health & Wellness.
Alexis is a native of Knoxville, TN and a returning member of the inaugural Vixens dance team. She has 14 years of experience in jazz, ballet, and modern dance both in Knoxville and at the College of Charleston. She danced four years with the Palmetto Stars and was also a member of the Lowgators' Gator Patrol. She is a 2001 graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Marine Biology.
Amanda is originally from St. Louis, MO and is a returning member of the Vixens. She relocated to Charleston in 1996 after completing massage therapy school and she is currently employed as a massage therapist at Urban Nirvana. She first started dancing and taking gymnastics as a child. She played basketball and volleyball as a freshman in high school, but started dancing again her sophomore season and did so throughout her remaining three years. Amanda danced with the Gator Patrol for the 2002-2003 season. She attended the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Amber is originally from Augusta, GA. She danced for 16 years with the Augusta West Performing Company, competing nation wide for 12 of those years. She spent one year touring with the Young Americans and two years on her high school dance team before moving to Charleston. She is currently a student at the College of Charleston, pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Becky is a Lowcountry native, hailing from North Charleston. She was involved with competitive cheerleading for 10 years, including four years as the team captain of her high school cheerleading squad. She also studied gymnastics for four years. She is currently a student at the College of Charleston.
Carlin is originally from Richmond, VA. She has 13 years of dance experience, 10 of which was competitive. Her experience includes jazz, modern, ballet, tap, and lyrical dance. She is currently a student at the College of Charleston, where she spent one year on the Cougarettes Dance Team.
Christina is a Lowcountry native and a returning Vixen. She currently is a sophomore at the College of Charleston, where she's danced as a member of the Cougarettes for two years. She has danced 14 years with Trudy's School of Dance, four years at James Island High School, three years at the School of the Arts, and two years at the Charleston Dance Studio, home of Robert Ivey Ballet.
Courtney is originally from Miami, FL and is a returning member of the Vixens. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston, where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Education and danced for the college dance team. She has over 11 years of studio dance training in tap, jazz, modern, pointe, ballet, hip-hop, and lyrical. Her professional career includes dancing in shows at both the Orange and Hula Bowls, as well as performing in the opening ceremonies for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA. She also danced with the Palmetto Stars for three years. She is married and currently works for the Children's Garden School and Wando High School, where she's coached the dance team for four years.
Evette is a native of the Lowcountry and a returning member of the inaugural Vixens dance team. She is a 1995 graduate of South Carolina State University, where she majored in math education. Her professional dance experience includes two years with the Carolina Twisters, one year with the Vixens, and two seasons with the Lowgators. She has also spent two years working with the MUSC "Gotta Dance" Program with James Johnson, featuring hip-hop and jazz styles. She currently works for the Charleston County School District.
Gina is originally from Knoxville, TN and is a returning member of the Vixens. She has five years of dance experience with the Center Stage Dance Ensemble and danced three years at Farragut High School. She is currently a senior at the College of Charleston majoring in psychology.
Kari is another Lowcountry native, hailing from James Island. Her dance experience includes cheerleading, dancing with the Charleston Southern University dance team, ballet, and gymnastics. She is currently a student at Trident Tech.
Kimberly is originally from Kokomo, IN and is a returning member of the Vixens. She is a 1999 graduate of Indiana State University and is currently employed as a speech pathologist at Berkeley Middle School. She was an assistant ballroom dancing instructor and has danced with the Lowgators' Gator Patrol.
Lindsay is a Lowcountry native as well as a returning Vixen. She has danced 13 years at the Happy Feet Studio in Charleston and danced professionally with the Vixens, Palmetto Stars, Club Tango Cabaret and the Gator Patrol.
Maggie is from Charleston and attended James Island High School. She has danced five years with Trudy's School of Dance and two years with Just Dance. While at James Island High, she was on the school's dance team all four years, earning Universal Dance Association (UDA) All-Star status. She is currently a student at Trident Tech.
Michelle is a Lowcountry native and was a dance student at Just Dance on James Island. A student at Trident Tech, she was also a member of the Trojan Rave dance team.
Nicole is originally from Charlotte, NC, but attended Wand High school in Mt. Pleasant. She has nearly 13 years of dance experience at the School of the Arts, Trudy's School of Dance, the Wando High School dance team, and the Charlotte Dance Studio.
Rhiannon has upwards of 21 years of dancing experience traveling around the nation. Originally from Washington, she is a professional flamenco dancer who is teaching dance here in the Lowcountry. She is married and works at Just Dance.
Sarah was born in Atlanta, GA but grew up in nearby Summerville, SC. She has been dancing for 18 years, including Robert Ivey Ballet in Summerville. In 1996, she attended South Carolina's Governor's School for the Arts. She later attended USC and CSU. She now works for Barnwell, Patterson, and Whaley Law firm. Sarah danced with the Palmetto Stars for three years, the Gator Patrol for one year, and is a returning member of the Vixens.
Tamara is originally from Lumberton, NC and a is returning member of the Vixens. She is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology and earned a Masters in Psychology from The Citadel. Her dance experience includes tap, ballet, and jazz. Since college, she has danced professionally with the Palmetto Stars, the Vixens, and with the Lowgators' Gator Patrol. She is currently employed at the Charleston Mental Health Center.
Tanya is from Goose Creek, SC. Her dance experience includes Virginia's Dance and one season with the Lowgators' Gator Patrol. She is currently a student at Miller-Motte Technical College.
Yxsumi is from Beaufort, SC. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston, where she majored in Physical Education. While at the College, she was a member of the Cougarette's dance team for four years. She also danced for two years in high school, three years with the Houston Movement, three years at the DeCappo School of the Arts, and seven years with the Carol Eason Dance Studio. She is currently a counselor and assistant track coach in Charleston.
