Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders warmly welcome Newfoundland and Labrador native Stephen Simms as their new President of Operations. Mr. Simms' appointment marks a new chapter in the Islanders' journey, and his role will be pivotal in advancing the organization's objectives.

"It's a genuine privilege to join the Islanders," expressed Simms humbly. "Having been inspired by hockey & sports throughout my life, this role feels like a meaningful connection to that passion. I'm particularly looking forward to working hand in hand with esteemed colleagues like General Manager & Head Coach Jim Hulton. His vast experience in the CHL, surpassing 1,000 games, and being a former CHL Coach of the Year, is truly admirable."

Chairman Shawn MacKenzie commented, "Having Stephen on board is a boon for us. His visionary leadership and proven track record promise great things as we navigate our future."

With a 22-year stint in executive roles, primarily at Fortune 50 firms, Simms offers diverse expertise-from accounting and strategic planning to human resources and business development. He's furthered his knowledge through Harvard University courses and earned a Master of Finance from the Australian Institute of Business.

His resume boasts notable positions, including a significant role at Walmart Canada, where he managed the Professional Services Retail Operations for Western Canada. He later became the CEO of Canada's leading national recreational vehicle enterprise. Stephen's core philosophy is relentless betterment and striving for the pinnacle of excellence, a value he imparts to his children, evident in his achievements in talent nurturing.

Beyond his professional milestones, Stephen is a staunch advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity. As a devoted community member, he's supported youth sports and has given over ten years to local board services, underlining the significance of community participation.

Away from his desk, Stephen cherishes moments with his trio of children. An avid sports family, he takes an active part in coaching. Instilling in his children the essence of community service and engagement, Stephen has encouraged them from a tender age to volunteer. The Simms family is enthusiastic about their forthcoming move from Vancouver to Charlottetown.

The Charlottetown Islanders are gearing up for the 2023/24 season kickoff at home. Join them on Saturday, September 23rd, as they face off against the Halifax Mooseheads at 7:00 p.m. For ticketing information, including Season Tickets and 15-Game Packages, please visit the Islanders Team Shop, online or dial 902.892.7351.
