GARY, Ind. â Silas Mills was hot for the second straight night and so were the rest of the Gary Steelheads as they defeated the American Conference-leading Rockford Lightning, 145-139 Thursday night at the Genesis Convention Center.
The Steelheads (7-8) won five quarter points and won their third straight game. The 145 points were the most ever scored by the Steelheads in a game in their history.
Silas Mills and Galen Young led the way with 28 points each. All eight Steelheads that played scored in double figures. Mills scored a season-high 29 points on Wednesday in a win at Great Lakes.
Jemeil Rich scored 24 points and Bryant Notree scored 21. Darrin Hancock (12 points), Oliver Miller (11), Nate Blessen (11) and Chris Allen (10) also scored in double digits.
Young had a game-high 15 rebounds, including several key ones down the stretch. Miller also had a double-double with 12 rebounds. Mills, Miller, Rich and Young had five assists each.
The Lightning (10-4) won the first quarter, 38-32. The Steelheads won the second quarter 48-32 to take an 80-70 halftime lead. The 80 halftime points are the most points scored in a half by the Steelheads this season. The 48 points are the most points the Steelheads have scored in any quarter this season. Gary led 113-95 after three quarters before holding off a late Rockford run.
