St. Paul Rallies to Defeat X’s 7-5

St. Paul, MN-----St. Paul scored five runs in the final two innings as they came from behind to defeat the Explorers 7-5 here Saturday.

The Explorers had increased their lead to 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Alberto Espinosa, his second of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh St. Paul's Brian Burgamy cranked a three-run home run over the right field fence that tied the game at 5-5. In the eighth inning, Dan Kaczrowski stroked a two-run double that gave the Saints a 7-5 lead.

The Explorers had 11 hits in the game with Sam Judah, Austin Gallagher, Yusuke Inoguchi and Peter Barrows all having two hits apiece. However, the Explorers hit into a season high five double plays that kept St. Paul close.

In relief Nathan Stewart took the loss for the Explorers while Mikey Mehlich picked up the victory out of the bullpen for the Saints. Former Explorer Jon Plefka retired the X's in order in the ninth inning in recording his second save since joining the Saints on July 23rd.

The Explorers and St. Paul will close out the three-game series Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium with game time set for 1:05.

Sioux City will return to Lewis and Clark Park on Monday to start a seven-game home stand with Winnipeg coming in for four games followed by St. Paul for three.
