Soo Eagles News Release

Eagles back on the road for a crucial three-game swing

The Soo Eagles and Jamestown Ironmen are set to do battle this weekend, and another four times in the next month, and first-place will be on the line. The Eagles start their first of their remaining six games against the Ironmen, this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Jamestown. The Eagles will also play there Saturday evening at 5 p.m., before making the trek to Johnstown, to take on the Tomahawks on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Eagles current sport a 25-8-3 record, good for 53 points and first place in the North American Hockey League's North Division, and four points ahead of Jamestown. The Ironmen are 23-8-3, good for 49 points and second place, but have a pair of games in hand on the Eagles. They will make up those games in hand next weekend. Johnstown is 17-11-8, with 42 points and in fourth place in the North Division.

The Eagles are 2-0 against the Ironmen this season, sweeping a series in September at Pullar Stadium. These teams will meet again at the Pullar on January 25-26 and back in Jamestown on January 31 and February 1, ending their season series.

The Eagles are 3-1 against the Tomahawks this season, sweeping a series at the Pullar and splitting on the road, in October. These teams will meet three more times this season, including February 8-9 at Pullar Stadium.

Eagles win steak hits eight, remain top of North Divison The Soo Eagles simply refuse to lose. They completed a perfect six-game home stand last weekend, as the Eagles defeated the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, in a pair of games at Pullar Stadium. The Eagles have now won eight games in a row, and sit four points clear of the Jamestown Ironmen, for first-place in the NAHL's North Division.

The Eagles will travel to Jamestown this Friday and Saturday night, as they will take on the second-place Jamestown Ironmen on Friday night at 7 pm, and Saturday evening at 5pm, before ending their road swing in Johnstown, Sunday afternoon at 1pm.

Here is a recap of last weekend's action:

Soo Eagles 6, Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings 5 - Saturday, January 5, 2013 By Scott Nason - EUP News.com

The Soo Eagles simply refuse to lose.

In a game that is seemed like they would lose, the Eagles once again found a way to win, coming back from a 4-2 deficit in third period, to earn a 6-5 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, sweeping the series, the six-game home stand, and winning their eighth straight.

Brandon Adams netted the winning goal for the Eagles, with 2:24 left in the third period, earning his second hat trick in just four games for the Eagles. Coach Bruno Bragagnolo wanted to get ten goals out of Adams this season, as he stated last weekend upon the arrival of the former Holy Cross Crusader.

With seven goals in just four games, I guess you could say Brandon is on the fast track.

Former Soo Eagle, Robbie Payne, led the way for the Jr. K-Wings scoring a hat trick, but his heroics were upstaged by Adams, who earned game First Star.

Michael Crowley, Alexander Taulien, and Eric Rivard were the other goal scorers for the Soo Eagles.

Starting goaltender Zach Nagelvoort was pulled in the second period, after giving up his third goal, and Tyler Marble replaced him in net, and made 14 saves to earn the victory. Nagelvoort made some key saves in the first period, on some very good scoring opportunities, to keep the Eagles in it.

Kalmazoo took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, before an offensive explosion by both teams, to begin the second period, as five goals were scored in the first 6:04.

Luc Boby and Patrick Spallacy scored the other goals for Kalamazoo.

The Eagles still lead the NAHL's North Division by four points over the Jamestown Ironmen, who swept Janesville over the weekend, to keep pace. Jamestown does have two games in hand on the Eagles.

The Eagles will face the Ironmen next Friday and Saturday nights in Jamestown, before ending their three-game road trip at Johnstown Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles scored four goals in the third period, and ran away from the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, winning 6-2 in front of 567 fans at Pullar Stadium on Friday night.
