Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SYDNEY, NS - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles scored three times in a 3:13 span midway through the third period and went on to defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs, 4-1, in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series at Centre 200.

Giovanni Fiore, Phelix Martineau, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Evgeny Svechnikov scored for Cape Breton.

Jakub Zboril responded with the lone strike for Saint John.

The best-of-seven series is now tied 2-2.

The teams played just 13 seconds before Cape Breton's Dillon Boucher hit Bailey Webster near the penalty box on the Screaming Eagles side of centre ice, breaking a pane of glass. The game was delayed about 15 minutes while the damage was repaired.

About two minutes after play resumed, Cape Breton opened the scoring on a power play when Fiore took a pass at the top of the right circle and hammered a one-timer past Saint John goalie Marc-Antoine Turcotte.

The Sea Dogs tied the game with a power play goal of their own nine minutes into the second.

Zboril carried the puck into the Screaming Eagles' zone in the middle of the ice and flicked a wrist shot off the left post and in, past goalie Alexandre Belanger.

A scary scene developed on the next shift.

Cape Breton's Tobie Paquette-Bisson moved toward the left boards in his own zone and fed the puck ahead. Sea Dogs' winger Bokondji Imama caught the defenceman with a hard hit that saw Paquette-Bisson tumble into the boards.

He laid on the ice for several minutes, requiring attention from the training staff of both Cape Breton and Saint John before being removed from the game on a stretcher. He did not return.

Imama was assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. The Sea Dogs killed the penalty and the game stayed 1-1 after forty minutes.

The Screaming Eagles took over on the scoreboard more than eight minutes into the final period.

Ex-Saint John captain Olivier LeBlanc sent a shot from the left point that was stopped by Turcotte, but Martineau buried the rebound to give the home side the lead again.

The Sea Dogs then took consecutive penalties to put Cape Breton on a 5-on-3 power play.

Dubois hammered home a one-timer from the high slot to make it a 3-1 game halfway through the period.

Nearly two minutes later, moments after the ensuing 5-on-4 power play ended, Svechnikov crept out of the right corner, took a pass and snapped the puck inside the right post to give the Screaming Eagles three goals in a 3:13 stretch.

The Sea Dogs ended up with a 5-on-3 power play in the final minute of the game, which turned into a 6-on-3 with Turcotte on the bench for an extra skater. Saint John did not score.

Belanger got the win and was named third star with 32 saves. Turcotte took the loss with 31 stops.

Martineau was named first star for the second night in a row while Dubois snared second star in front of 3,640 fans in attendance.

Game 5 is Friday, April 15th, at 7 p.m. at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office, online at harbourstation.ca or by calling 657-1234.
