Sams Wins Second Consecutive Player of the Week Award

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Quebec Capitales OF Kalian Sams (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 2.
The award continues an impressive string for Sams, who also was named Player of the Week last week, and was awarded the Can-Am League Rawlings Player of the Month for July. This week, he was 10-for-18 in five games, accumulating two doubles, four home runs, and 11 RBI.
On Wednesday, he was 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 5-3 loss to the Rockland Boulders. Thursday saw the most impressive game of the week for the native of The Hague, Netherlands. Sams launched two home runs, driving in five in an 8-3 win for the Capitales. The series closed Friday with a 3-for-4 performance for Sams, as he collected a double, a home run and two RBI while scoring two runs. The weekend saw Quebec open a series with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Sams was 0-for-3 in Saturday's 6-5 win, but did walk and score a run. He closed the week with a 4-for-4 game on Sunday, adding a double, a home run, three RBI and scoring four runs in an 8-5 win over Trois-Rivieres.
He is now hitting .289 on the year with 14 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 48 RBI. He spent two seasons in the Dutch Major League in 2005 and 2006 before moving his career stateside. Sams played with the Seattle Mariners system for six seasons and subsequently played in 2013 with the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers organizations. Sams played 24 games with the Class AAA Tucson Padres in 2013, marking his highest level of pro baseball. Sams spent the 2014 season with the Camden Riversharks in the Atlantic League before joining the Can-Am League for 2015.
Quebec is now 36-27, just 1.5 games out of first place in the Can-Am League. They continue a four-game series with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles tonight at 7:05 p.m. at home at Le Stade Municipal. That game, like all Can-Am League games, is available live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
