
Red Claws Send 2012 Draft Picks to Texas for Randle, Hill

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired guard Jerome Randle and forward Lawrence Hill in a trade with the Texas Legends. The Red Claws will send their 2nd and 3rd round selections in the 2012 NBA Development League Draft to the Legends for the two players. The Red Claws have also waived Darren Cooper and Mike Tisdale.
Randle, 23, a 5-10, 172 lb. guard, participated in the Dallas Mavericks' training camp earlier this month, appearing in the two preseason games where he averaged 11.0 points and 2.0 assists in 18.0 minutes. He was the Mavericks' top scorer with 17 points in their preseason loss at Oklahoma City. Randle starred at the University of California where he was a three-year starter for the Golden Bears, Randle was named Pac-10 Player of the Year and Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention in his senior campaign, averaging 18.6 points and 4.3 assists. Undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft, Randle competed for both the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards during 2010 NBA Summer League. He spent the 2010-11 season playing in Turkey. Randle is expected to join the team immediately and be in the lineup this weekend as the Red Claws host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in a two-game set.
Hill, a 6-8, 220 lb. forward, participated in the Sacramento Kings 2011 training camp, appearing in one preseason game where he grabbed one rebound in one minute off the bench on December 17 at Golden State. Hill, out of Stanford University, has appeared in 5 games with the Texas Legends this season, averaging 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. He spent the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons with Halcones Rojos de Veracruz (Mexico-LNBP) where he led the team to the Mexican LNBP Regular Season Champion in 2010 and averaged more than 15 points last season. Hill, who will be delayed in joining the Red Claws and is expected to join the team on their upcoming Texas road swing, will be waived due to personal reasons until he is able to join the team.
The Red Claws will host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers this Saturday, December 31 at 1 PM and Sunday, January 1 at 5 PM. Maine Red Claws - 2011-12 will mark the third season for the Maine Red Claws, the minor league affiliate of the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats and Philadelphia 76ers. The NBA D-League team plays its home games at the Portland Expo Building. The franchise is owned and operated by Maine Basketball, LLC, which is principally owned by Bill Ryan Sr., the retired chairman of TD Bank, and Bill Ryan Jr., owner and operator of Oxford Plains Speedway. Jon Jennings, a partner in Maine Basketball, LLC and former Boston Celtics assistant coach, serves as the team's president and general manager.
