November 30, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - For the second time in the last four seasons, Red Bull Arena was named the 2021 Professional Soccer Field of the Year, Sports Turf Management Association announced today. RBA first earned the award in 2018 and RBNY's Academy Field garnered the award in 2020.
"We are extremely honored by today's recognition from STMA", said Marc de Grandpré, General Manager, New York Red Bulls. "The Red Bull Arena Grounds team continues to be the best in the business; they are the reason why our player match day experience remains second to none."
Red Bull Arena stadium pitch maintenance led by Neal Sitzman has maintained the same surface since 2012 and will be implementing a new grass surface for the start of the 2022 season. RBA has been a frequent host of international friendlies, including appearances by the United States Men's & Women's National teams, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as numerous top club sides from around the world.
Red Bull Arena, home to Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls, hosted 39 soccer matches in 2021, which was its most events in a calendar year. Alongside its regular 17 Red Bulls matches, RBA welcomed NY/NJ Gotham FC for 12 matches, New York City FC to seven matches, CF Montréal to a match and two international friendlies. The Red Bulls (8-3-6), Gotham FC (4-3-5), NYCFC (4-2-1) and Montreal (1-0-0) combined for a 17-8-12 mark as the home team in RBA.
