Frederick Keys News Release

ZEBULON, NC -Corey Ray hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to give the Carolina Mudcats (13-17) a 5-4 walk-off win over the Frederick Keys (16-15) in extra-innings on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium. Pounding out 16 hits, the Mudcats secured a split of the four-game set.

In the 10th, Mitch Horacek retired the first batter he faced, before Carlos Belonis singled to center. That sent up Corey Ray, who doubled off the left-center wall to score Belonis from first. The Mudcats leadoff man went 2-for-5 and drove home three of his team's five runs.

The Keys tied the game twice against the Mudcats. Carolina struck first in the second off Brian Gonzalez. With one out, Trent Clark singled and scored on a double by Troy Stokes Jr. One batter later, Max McDowell added a two-bagger to make it 2-0.

In the third, the Keys broke through off Freddy Peralta. Following a single by Ricardo Andujar, Austin Hays added a base hit to put men at the corners, while Ryan Mountcastle doubled to get the Keys on the board. One frame later, Alex Murphy doubled high off the leftfield wall and scored following a passed ball and a wild pitch.

With the game level at two, Carolina scored a pair in the fourth on a base knock from Ray which brought in Belonis and McDowell from scoring position. However the Keys answered with another double, this time courtesy of Randolph Gassaway which made it 4-4.

The only blemish by Mudcats reliever, Marcos Diplan, the right-hander tossed five innings of two-run baseball before handing things off to Nate Griep. Earning the win, Griep (3-0) pitched a scoreless 10th. Horacek (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up a run on three hits in 1.2 innings. He struck out three.
