Pride Set Opening Roster

FLORENCE, SC – The Florence Pride announced today their opening roster for the 2003-2004 season.

The Pride have 19 players on the active roster. Florence made two changes to the roster today. Right wing Mark Cody was released, while the Pride signed another right wing, Shaun Sutter.

Sutter is a former draft choice of the Calgary Flames, and comes from the highly-respected Sutter family. His father, Brian, is the head coach of the Pride's NHL affiliate, the Chicago Blackhawks, and played 779 NHL games. Five of Sutter's uncles also played in the NHL. In all, the six Sutter brothers played in 4,994 NHL games. Shaun Sutter spent the last two season with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL and the Saint John Flames of the AHL. He averaged a point per game in this time in the ECHL.

Of the 19 players on the Pride roster, seven spent time with the team last season: Rob Anderson, Wes Goldie, Kyle Kidney, Ryan Knox, Jason Metcalfe, Allan Sirois and Mike Torney. An eighth, Matt Underhill, is on loan to AHL Manchester. Five players have previous pro experience: Scott Balan, Jade Galbraith, Victor Gervais, Dan Lombard and Sutter.

Seven players are entering their first professional season: Ryan Annesley, Chris Barr, Kris Carlson, Nicolas Corbeil, Adam Elzinga, Malcolm MacMillan and Mark McRae.

The Pride open the 2003-2004 regular season Friday at Columbia. The home opener is Saturday at 7:30 when the Pride host the Inferno. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive free Cheer Sticks, courtesy of Carolina Custom Truck Accessories. Florence is also home on Sunday, hosting Florida at 2:30. All Sunday home games this season are Kid's Day, with tickets for all kids 12 and under just $2.50, and kid's meals will also be available for $2.50.
