Paul McFarland Departs Frontenacs for Opportunity with Seattle Kraken

Kingston, Ontario - Kingston Frontenacs General Manager and Head Coach Paul McFarland will depart the club and join the coaching staff of the National Hockey League's Seattle Kraken.

In Seattle, McFarland will become an Assistant Coach on Dave Hakstol's expansion team. Paul and Dave have experience working together, as both men were behind the bench for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2019-20 season.

McFarland's second stint with the Kingston Frontenacs has come to an end before he was able to coach another game for the black and gold. Paul was hired as Head Coach of the Frontenacs on May 8th, 2020 and given the dual role of General Manager on August 18th, 2020.

Due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of the Ontario Hockey League's 2020-21 season, Paul never had a chance to add to his 111 regular season victories with Kingston. He was the head coach of the Kingston Frontenacs from 2014-17 before rejoining the organization after a 3 year stretch in the NHL coaching Florida and Toronto.

"I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Kingston Frontenacs family," said Paul. "I would like to personally thank the Springer family, our coaching staff and support staff, business operations team, billet families, and most importantly our players and their families."

McFarland has left a lasting impression within the organization. His hard work, dedication and winning attitude will be reflected in our players and newly drafted prospects for years to come.

"Kingston will always hold a special place in our hearts for my family and I," stated McFarland.

Kory Cooper will take over as the team's General Manager. Kory was hired as the Frontenacs Assistant General Manager and Goaltending Coach on September 11th, 2020. He has been instrumental in creating a winning mindset and culture within the Kingston Frontenacs organization.

"The organization will be in great hands with the leadership of Kory Cooper and the rest of our coaching staff," claimed Paul McFarland. "I have no doubt that the culture and standard that our staff and players have created together will continue to grow strong for many seasons ahead. I look forward to following all of their successes as they move forward into next season and beyond.

The entire Kingston Frontenacs organization would like to thank Paul and his family for their commitment to the hockey club and our community.

"The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club is sad to see Paul McFarland go, but we want to wish him and his family all the best as they start a new adventure in Seattle," said Kingston Frontenacs President and Governor, Doug Springer.
