Albuquerque, NM - New Mexico United fell by a 0-1 score to Charleston Battery on Saturday night, with Augustine Williams scoring the only matches only goal in the 74th minute - a deflected header, off the return pass from a free kick. United received eleven yellow cards in the match. 9,034 fans attended the match.
The match was the first for loanee goalkeeper Andrew Thomas. Thomas joined the Black & Yellow on loan from Seattle Sounders FC on Friday, and suited up just 24 hours later. He played well - winning 3/3 of duels, and 2/2 aerial duels, and making one save.
Charleston's 1.76 expected goals - compared to United's 0.69 indicated that they were deserved winners. United held a 12-10 advantage in shots, and a 3-2 lead in shots on target in the match. Charleston held a 57%-43% advantage in possession.
United's next match will be in one week, on Saturday, September 9th against Birmingham Legion FC, in Alabama.
