BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union,ÃÂ fell behind early and never recovered in a 6-1 loss on Saturday night to the Missouri Mavericks at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Mavericks scored just 2:11 into the game when Sebastien Thinel lit the lamp, followed by Evan Vossen at 8:24 and Andrew Courtney at 15:33 to put the visitors ahead 3-0 at the first intermission.
MissouriÃÂ added three more tallies in the second period with Josh Turnbull, John-Scott Dickson and Jamie Vanderveeken to push their lead to 6-0 after two periods.ÃÂ The Blaze scored the only third period goal when Tyler Gron scored at the 4:51 mark assisted by Nicholas Rioux and Ryan Palmer.
The Blaze were unsuccessful on their only power play while the Mavericks did not score in three chances.ÃÂ Nick Niedert and Gerry Festa split time in the Blaze net, with Niedert taking the loss with 15 saves while giving up five goals.ÃÂ Mathieu Corbeil earned the win in goal for the Mavericks with 30 saves.
