Mariachis Introduce New Look, Promotions for Upcoming Season
March 18, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
As part of Minor League Baseball's continuing initiative celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture, the Albuquerque Isotopes will transform into "Mariachis de Nuevo México" for five games during the upcoming 2019 season.
The Mariachis are coming off of an incredibly successful 2018 campaign which saw the club win the inaugural "Copa de la Diversión" ("Fun Cup") based on criteria such as attendance, community partnerships and how much the New Mexico community embraced the team.
Due to the success of the Mariachis and other "Copa" clubs, the series has expanded to 72 teams this season compared to 33 in 2018 and will again see more teams embracing alternate identities in 2020.
To build on the success of the 2018 campaign, the Mariachis will adopt a new on-field look for the 2019 season. The addition of turquoise to the uniforms and caps pay homage to the official New Mexico state gem.
The Mariachis will also play five games at Isotopes Park this season, compared to four the previous season. Each game will have its own unique theme and feel as Isotopes Park will once again transform from "the Lab" into "the Plaza."
A new sight to be featured around Isotopes Park this season will be an oversized Mariachis bobblehead standing on the concourse to greet fans as they enter the ballpark. The bobblehead stands at over seven feet tall.
Fans can purchase a special "Mariachis 5-Pack" to secure their seat for each of the five Mariachis games. This package can be purchased online at abqisotopes.com or can also be purchased in-person at the Isotopes Park Box Office. The $70 package features one Box Level ticket to all five Mariachis games.
