Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 27, 2004) â Long Island Ducks team officials today announced they have come to contract terms with seven-year minor league veteran RHP Jim Stoops. Stoops will be in uniform and available to pitch tonight, May 27, as the Ducks take on the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m.
"Jim is a quality guy that brings a great amount of experience and talent to our staff," said Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "We're looking forward to seeing him in action."
Stoops begins 2004 on the comeback trail after being out of baseball for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. In his last year of play, Stoops split time between Norwich (AA, Yankees) and Columbus (AAA, Yankees) during the 2001 season. He reached the major league level with the Colorado Rockies in 1998 and owns a career minor league record of 22-24 with an ERA of 3.54 in 434.1 innings pitched. The Edison, New Jersey native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the San Francisco Giants in 1995.
The Long Island Ducks, who play their home games at Citibank Park, are in their fifth anniversary season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have filled their ballpark to over 100 percent capacity for four consecutive seasons and are one of the most successful minor league franchises in the country.
