LHP Brad Hand Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors

August 5, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA - New Orleans Zephyrs left-hander Brad Hand was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher

of the Week for the week of August 4, the league announced Monday.

Hand is the second Zephyr in as many weeks to win the award, following Brian Flynn's performance last

week, marking the first time since 2005 Z's hurlers have claimed the league's pitching honor in

consecutive weeks.

Hand did not surrender a run over 11 innings in two solid starts last week and led the league with 16

strikeouts. On Tuesday against Colorado Springs, the left-hander tossed five scoreless innings and allowed

only three hits while striking out five in a no-decision. Hand bested himself on Sunday against Reno, this

time pitching six scoreless innings to go along with 11 strikeouts, tying his career high, while giving up

only one hit and two walks in the win.

Born in Minneapolis, Hand was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Miami Marlins. He

made his Major League debut in June 2011 at just 21 years of age, and has spent most of the last two

seasons with New Orleans, where he has gone 14-10 with a 3.63 ERA in 37 starts for the Zephyrs.

Omaha Storm Chasers first baseman Ben Broussard took home the PCL's Player of the Week honor by

hitting .464 during the week.

The Zephyrs conclude an eight-game homestand with a pair of 7 p.m. games against the Reno Aces on

Monday and Tuesday. For more information or for tickets, call the Zephyrs box office at (504) 734-5155.
