November 17, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - Omaha Lancers' goaltender and Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Kris Oldham has been named to the U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the 2015 World Junior A Challenge, December 13 - 19, in Whitby, Ontario.
"It's a huge honor and I'm excited to represent the United States," said Oldham, a native of Anchorage, AK. "I can't thank the Lancers' organization and USA Hockey enough to be able to have this privilege."
It's not the first time Oldham, a University of Nebraska-Omaha commit, has played for Team USA. While on the North American Hockey League's Kenai River Brown Bears in 2013-2014, Oldham helped the United States win all five games at the 2013 Five Nations Tournament with a 1.81 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage in four games played.
In addition to Oldham, three other NHL Draft picks were named to the roster: John Marino (Edmonton Oilers), Chase Pearson (Detroit Red Wings) and Ryan Zuhlsdorf (Tampa Bay Lightning).
In October, Lancers' head coach Brian Kaufman was named to the coaching staff of the U.S. Junior Select Team for the second straight year. "We're excited for Kris," said Kaufman. "He has been extremely good for us and is very deserving of this honor."
The U.S. Junior Select Team, made up of players from the United States Hockey League, has medaled in the previous eight tournaments, including winning gold six times (2014, 2013, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2008). The United States has participated in the tournament eight times, won 30 of the 35 games they have played in the event, and are currently on a 13-game win streak.
The U.S. Junior Select Team has seen six first round NHL Draft picks take the ice including Brock Boeser (Vancouver Canucks), John Carlson (Washington Capitals), Kyle Connor (Winnipeg Jets), John Moore (Columbus Blue Jackets), Jordan Schmaltz (St. Louis Blues) and Nick Schmaltz (Chicago Blackhawks).
