Joliet Falls on Road to Schaumburg

(Schaumburg, IL) - The Joliet Slammers (8-11) dropped game number one in their three game road series Friday night 5-2 to the Schaumburg Boomers (12-8).

Jacob Sanchez entered the game throwing 10 strikeouts in back-to-back starts but did not have his best stuff, as he lasted five and two third innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

Danny Jimenez however for the Boomers was outstanding, lasting eight innings, only allowing two runs and punching out 10 batters.

For the fifth consecutive game, Joliet scored first with David Christensen chalking up one run on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run. Slammers led 1-0 after the half inning, but Schaumburg tied the game in the home half of the inning.

Joliet regained the lead in the top of the fourth with Christensen leading off with a single. After Michael Wing struck out and Seth Schwindenhammer grounded out to third, Kyle Maunus batted Christensen home on a RBI single, giving Joliet a 2-1 lead.

The game would remain that way until the sixth inning when the Boomers scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Alexi Colon started the inning with a leadoff home run, tying the ballgame at two runs apiece. Craig Hertler followed up with a double and Gerald Hall reached on a fielder's choice. Frank Pfister also reached on a fielder's choice with Hertler being putout on the play.

Chad Mozingo sent Hall home on a RBI single giving Schaumburg a 3-2 lead. Pfister eventually scored the third run of the inning after being batted home on anther RBI single, this time off the bat of Sean Mahley.

The Boomers added one more run in the bottom of the seventh, pushing their lead to 5-2 and that would end up being the final score as Joliet was held scoreless after the fourth inning.

Lefty Corey Kimes (2-1) gets the start in game two for Joliet. Kimes will face off against Chris Phelan (1-0) for Schaumburg. First pitch is at 6:00 and the pre-game on 1340 WJOL starts at 5:45 p.m.
