Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that Jeff Mannix has been named the team's new broadcaster for the 2011-12 season.
"I'm truly honored to have been chosen by the Portland Pirates organization for this opportunity," said Mannix. " It is humbling to join a distinguished group who have called professional hockey in the city of Portland over the years, including Mike Emrick, Joe Beninati, Tom Caron, and Dave Ahlers. I look forward to bringing the excitement of Portland Pirates hockey to the team's enthusiastic fan base this season."
Mannix, 30, is an honors graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Journalism and Broadcast Sequence, and comes to the Pirates from Inland Northwest Broadcasting in Moscow, Idaho where he served as a Senior News Reporter and Play-by-Play Announcer for various high school basketball, football, and baseball tournaments. Prior to his time with Inland Northwest Broadcasting, the Bangor, Maine native held the position as lead Radio Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, formerly of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
"The addition of Jeff Mannix to our staff is a welcomed hat trick," said Pirates Managing Owner/CEO, Brian Petrovek. "Jeff brings a wealth of communications and play-by-play experience at numerous levels to our brand, hands-on knowledge of the local hockey culture and a respected gene pool to boot! Jeff's accomplishments, talent and motivation separated him from the dozens of quality applicants we had to choose from and we are thrilled to welcome him back to the state of Maine."
Mannix will be the Pirates play-by-play voice for all 76 regular season games which can be heard on the WPEI 95.9 FM and WPPI 95.5 FM networks, as well as through live audio streaming via PortlandPirates.com.
"We look forward to another great season of play-by-play action with the Portland Pirates on the expanded WEEI Radio network on WPEI 95.9 FM and WPPI 95.5 FM," said Atlantic Coast Radio general manager Jon Van Hoogenstyn. "We also welcome back Jeff Mannix to the broadcast booth."
