Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - Fans were witness to an exciting performance from the Odessa Jackalopes (3-0-0-0) as they defeated the Amarillo Bulls (0-2-0-1) for the first time since November 2, 2019. The victory came after a 3-2 regulation victory on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
The Jackalopes were buzzing right from the get-go as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. The first goal came off of the stick of Isaiah Huempfner, who recently returned to the Jackalopes this week after a stint in the United States Hockey League, on his first shot on net this season. It was a big moment for the veteran returner who was a key leader from last year's squad. It also set the table for what was to come.
The Jacks were then aided by two goals from Jacob Badal later in the first period to put Odessa up 3-0 after 20 minutes. The Western Michigan University commit now has goals in two of his last three contests, and is averaging a point per game.
Amarillo made things interesting down the stretch as they were able to get goals in the early stages of the second and third periods to trim the Jackalopes lead to 3-2. However, the Odessa defense, led by netminder Connor Hasley, stood firm in the face of a sometimes fierce Amarillo offense. Hasley, a commit to Bentley University, ended the night making 24 saves on 26 Amarillo shots. He is now 3-0 as a starter this year.
With the victory, the Jacks now sit in a tie for first place in the South Division with the Lone Star Brahmas, who are idle this week, as both teams now have 6 points on the year. The Jackalopes will look to complete the weekend sweep and continue this historic run on Saturday at the Ector County Coliseum. Face-off is set for 7:15 pm.
