Frederick Keys News Release

Lynchburg, Va. - Lynchburg scored one in the sixth and added three in the eighth for insurance to hold off the Keys 5-3 on Saturday night at Calvin Falwell Field. Chris Lee, making his Orioles organizational and Advanced-A debut, tossed five innings, allowed one run on six hits, and struck out four in a no-decision.

Lynchburg jumped ahead in the sixth against reliever Austin Urban (0-2). Eric Haase was hit by a pitch to leadoff the frame and Joe Sever followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners. Mike Papi grounded into a fielder's choice for an RBI and a 2-1 Hillcats lead.

The Hillcats would need the insurance runs they produced in the seventh on a pair of home runs against Urban. Luigi Rodriguez roped one over the right field fence for a solo shot, and Hasse blasted a two-run shot to left field for a 5-1 advantage.

Frederick scored twice in the top of the eighth inning against Justin Brantley (1-1), however they left the tying run at the plate. Adrian Marin punched a two-bagger into the left-center field gap and Austin Wynns singled to put runners at first and third. Johnny Ruettiger brought Marin in on a force, and Gregory Lorenzo launched a ball off the wall in left to plate Ruettiger. Lorenzo was left at second after Ben Heller (fourth save) came in to get a Josh Hart bounce out to first to end the threat.

Lynchburg scored its first run of the game in the first inning against Lee, who was acquired in a trade with Houston on Monday. After setting down the first two batters, Bradley Zimmer recorded an infield single and Nellie Rodriguez doubled to left to put the Hillcats ahead 1-0. They had a chance to add to their lead in the third, but left them loaded against Lee.

The Keys tied it up at one in the fourth on an RBI single by Wynns. Brenden Webb worked a 12-pitch single to center with one out, stole second, and came home on the two-out knock by Wynns. Ruettiger and Lorenzo both got infield singles to load the bases, but Hart struck out looking to leave them loaded. Frederick left 10 runners on base and went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position after going 10-for-17 last night.

Heller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for a four out save and evened the series at one game apiece. Tomorrow, the Keys and Lynchburg start at 2 p.m. for game three of the four-game set. RHP David Hess (2-2, 4.99) makes his ninth start of the year against Hillcats RHP Michael Peoples (3-3, 6.55). The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. Frederick returns home on Wednesday, May 27 when the Salem Red Sox come to town for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
