Graeter's And The Crew Join Forces; The Country's Oldest Continuous Ice Cream Maker Creates "Columbus Crew Chip" And The M.L.S., "The Major League Sunday"
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew General Manager Jim Smith, in conjunction with Graeter's Ice Cream President Jim Cunningham, announced today that the two organizations have joined into a promotional partnership, the first such agreement that Graeter's has ever entered into.
Graeter's Ice Cream is the oldest continuous ice cream maker in the country, beginning in 1870 in Cincinnati. There are a total of 10 Graeter's stores in greater Columbus.
As part of the partnership, Graeters has created two specific Crew menu items, the "Columbus Crew Chip," a black and yellow ice cream, and the M.L.S., or "Major League Sundae," a huge scoop of Columbus Crew Chip, covered with hot fudge, whipped cream, black and yellow Crew sprinkles and a cherry - all on a giant Oreo Wafer. "Columbus Crew Chip" will be available in all 10 Columbus-area Graeter's stores by March 28.
"Our partnership with Graeter's promises to be a fun, exciting association," Smith said. "The Columbus Crew and Graeter's are two of the top names in all of central Ohio. Both stand for quality. It's only natural that we partner up."
Graeter's will hold weekly drawings in each of its stores for Crew tickets and merchandise and one of the company's T-shirts for its 10th annual T-shirt promotion will feature a Crew logo, theme and design.
Graeter's ice cream will be available at Crew Stadium concession stands and fans will also be able to win free ice cream at Crew games, through the "Score With Graeter's" promotion. When The crew scores a goal while the Graeter's flag is raised, ticket stubs from that game will be redeemable for a free cone with the purchase of one at any Columbus-area Graeter's immediately following the game or throughout the next day.
The first of four player appearances at Graeter's stores throughout the season is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, at the 2555 Bethel Road location, from 2-4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out to meet players, the Crewzers Professional Dance Team and Crew mascot Crew Cat for autographs, lots of giveaways and more.
