Forward Madison FC News Release
MADISON, Wis. - Forward Madison FC fell 1-0 to Spokane Velocity FC on Saturday night at Breese Stevens Field. Despite controlling much of the possession and creating several quality chances throughout the match their unbeaten home streak has been broken.
With Forward Madison fighting to secure a home playoff match and Spokane battling for a playoff spot, both sides entered the night with plenty at stake. The Flamingos controlled the pace early, testing the Spokane defense with a series of chances throughout the opening 45 minutes. Forward Madison nearly found the breakthrough in the first five minutes with back-to-back opportunities, while a fifth-minute shot from Geni Kanyane was blocked by the Spokane defense.
Ryan Carmichael and Josh Bolma continued to threaten, firing shots and testing the Spokane backline. The pair nearly connected for another opportunity in the eighth minute, while a free kick earned by Roman Torres in the 12th minute gave R. Carmichael a chance, but he sent his effort just over the bar, applying pressure to the Spokane keeper.
Forward Madison continued to dictate possession and control the tempo, creating opportunities throughout the remainder of the half but entered halftime scoreless.
The Flamingos carried their offensive momentum into the second half, continuing to pressure the Spokane defense. Forward Madison continued to generate chances, with Kanyane sending a cross into the box in the 60th minute that Claudel N'Goubou headed just over the crossbar. R. Carmichael then fired a shot wide in the 63rd minute before forcing another save in the 68th minute after finding himself one-on-one with the Spokane goalkeeper.
Despite Forward Madison's continued pressure, Spokane broke through in the 74th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Flamingos pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes but were unable to find the back of the net, with Spokane holding on for the 1-0 victory. Forward Madison will look to bounce back in its next match as the Flamingos continue their push for a home playoff match.
