TUPELO, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts defeat the Greenville RiverHawks 111-12 in a game that saw Tupelo team scoring records shattered. The Tupelo FireAnts continue to hold on to sole possession of first place in the Atlantic South Division with the victory over the RiverHawks tonight in front of 2,009 fans at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
The FireAnts were led on offense by Will Hall, who completed seven of eight passes for 202 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Joe Gunn ran the ball five times for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Chris Rainey ran the ball twice for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Rico McDonald carried the ball three times for 33 yards and two scores while Will Hall ran the ball twice for four yards and a touchdown. Darryl Carter had two receptions, both for touchdowns. Chris Rainey had two receptions for 73 yards and a score, David Mooneyham hauled in two passes for 51 yards and a score, and Bobby Hill had one reception for nine yards. On defense, Bobby Hill, Pig Prather, Tyson Patterson, and Kareem Vance each nabbed an interception, while Eric Bingham picked of two. Pig Prather, Eric Bingham and Bobby Hill each scored a touchdown on interception returns. Bobby Hill also returned a missed field goal 37 yards for a touchdown. Kicker John Michael Marlin was successful on 11 of 14 extra points. Tupelo totaled 177 yards rushing and 202 yards passing for a total of 379 yards of offense, with 13 first downs and 6 penalties for 136 yards.
The RiverHawks were led on offense by running back Doug Pearson, who ran the ball three times for 12 yards. Pearson also hauled in a game-high six receptions for 33 yards. Starting quarterback Chris Thompson completed 12 of 24 passes for 108 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. T.J. Wiley also contributed at quarterback, completing four of eight passes for 18 yards, with two interceptions. Adrien Wilkerson caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown, while Yorel Prosser nabbed four receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Wayne Bishop, Chad Stoddard, and Gary Tyler each had two tackles. Greenville totaled 80 yards of offense, with 14 first downs and two penalties for 12 yards.
Tupelo's record improves to 3-0, while Greenville's record drops to 0-2.
The FireAnts hit the road next weekend as they take on the Beaumont Drillers on Saturday, April 10th in Texas.
