Eppler Matches Career-Best with Six Strikeouts in 6-2 Victory

CURVE, Pa. - Altoona Curve starter Tyler Eppler tied a career-best by striking out six batters in his six scoreless innings of work, defeating the Bowie Baysox, 6-2, on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Eppler (Win, 6-5) struck out four Baysox batters in his first time through the order, and scattered four hits while walking one in picking up his third win of June.

First-place Altoona (44-34) finishes the month of June with a 17-12 record, while Bowie (34-45) closes the month with a 14-15 mark.

The Curve gave Eppler an early offensive cushion, getting runs in the second inning on an Eric Wood RBI groundout and in the third on a Harold Ramirez RBI single to make it 2-0, Altoona.

A Barrett Barnes RBI double and Kevin Newman sacrifice fly in the fourth inning doubled the Curve leave to 4-0.

Baysox starter Jason Garcia (Loss, 4-7) exited after five innings of work, allowing six runs on nine hits. Garcia also tied a season-high with four walks and struck out two batters in dropping his first decision in the month of June.

The Curve extended their lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning on a wild pitch from Baysox reliever Bobby Bundy and Ramirez's second RBI hit of the day.

Bowie got on the scoreboard in the seventh against Miguel Rosario with a Glynn Davis RBI single, and Brett McKinney allowed a solo home run in the ninth, but struck out two batters in the final frame to seal the 6-2 victory.

Ramirez led the Curve offense with a 3-for-5 day to accompany his two RBI, while Anderson Feliz also recorded a multi-hit night. Eppler logged his 11th quality start of the season.

The Curve and Baysox continue their four-game set on Friday at 7 p.m. Curve righty Alex McRae (2-2, 8.55) gets the start for Altoona, while the Baysox will throw southpaw John Means (1-3, 5.34). It will also be A Salute to Our Military Night, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Veterans Card Set giveaway, presented by Martin's Foods. The Curve will also be holding a Homeless Veterans Drive, where fans are asked to bring new twin sheet sets and towels to the game for homeless vets.
