San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown goalkeeper Emi Ochoa has been called to the United States U19 Men's National Team for a training camp at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. from April 22 - May 1. Ochoa will be joined by Quakes Academy midfielder/defender Ethan Kohler and defender Nathan Rodrigues. The three players, all born in May 2005, are 16 years old.
Ochoa signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose ahead of the 2020 MLS season. He was 14 years and 191 days old at the time, then the second youngest player to ever sign a professional contract in MLS history. Ochoa has yet to feature for the Quakes' first team, but has made two appearances for Earthquakes II in MLS NEXT Pro. He also played for the Quakes Academy U17s at the 2022 Generation adidas Cup.
Ochoa has previously represented the U.S. (U14, U15) and Mexico (U16, U18).
Kohler competes for the Quakes Academy U17s and Earthquakes II and has made one appearance in MLS NEXT Pro so far this season. He is committed to Stanford University.
Rodrigues serves as captain of the Quakes Academy U17s. During the recent Generation adidas Cup, he scored a late equalizer against River Plate to help San Jose defeat the prominent Argentine side. Rodrigues is committed to Loyola Marymount University.
Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2004, are age-eligible for the 2022-23 U-19 MYNT cycle. Eight players called into camp were born in 2004 and 26 born in 2005. All 34 players at this training camp are age-eligible for this summer's 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship in Honduras, which serves as qualification for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics. The players born in 2005 are also age-eligible for the 2024-25 U-20 World Cup cycle.
