Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - It's going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood and a beautiful day for a neighbor at 6 p.m. on July 5 when the Curve and WPSU Penn State play host to "A Night in the Neighborhood." Throughout the evening, families can celebrate both the current hit PBS KIDS television show Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood produced by The Fred Rogers Company, as well as the classic children's series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Would you be ours? Could you be ours? Won't you be our neighbor?

In conjunction with both WPSU and The Fred Rogers Company, the Curve will bring Daniel Tiger himself to Curve, Pa. for the game while the team on the field will wear special jerseys in the likeness of one of Mister Rogers' famous cardigan sweaters that he put on in every show. Proceeds from the jersey auction that night will be donated to WPSU in support of the station's community engagement efforts.

"We're thrilled to partner with The Fred Rogers Company and WPSU for what's sure to be a special night in our neighborhood," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Young Daniel Tiger fans, their parents and grandparents, and anyone who grew up with Mister Rogers will really enjoy this unique event. Of course, the best part will be the awareness and funds raised for the charities involved."

"The Fred Rogers Company is delighted to join forces with the Curve and WPSU on this holiday weekend to honor Fred's core values of sharing and giving back that continue today with Daniel Tiger," said Bill Isler, president of The Fred Rogers Company. "The spirit of neighborliness that is so important to both series will be evident at the ballpark as families come together not only to enjoy the game but also to support their community."

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood is the first series inspired by the show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" and currently airs on PBS affiliates nationwide. The series, which is aimed at preschoolers ages two to four, tells engaging stories about the life of preschooler Daniel Tiger and uses the musical strategies grounded in Fred Rogers' landmark social-emotional curriculum to reinforce skills every young child needs to do well in school and in life.

For the game on July 5, the Curve will also be holding a Daniel Tiger/Mister Rogers Sweater Drive to benefit the American Rescue Workers. People are encouraged to donate new or gently-worn sweaters, as well as other clothing, as they come to the game. Neighborhood Sweater Drive bins will be placed at each of the gates at Peoples Natural Gas Field as well as at the Laurel Eye Clinic Customer Service Booth. All of Fred Rogers' original sweaters were knitted by his mother.

WPSU will be at the ballpark that day and will hand out 500 books to children during the game. In addition, one special child could win a grand prize of a Daniel Tiger Prize Pack that will feature Daniel Tiger merchandise, including books, a plush toy, and additional items.

The game in Curve, Pa. on July 5 is also a Ritchey's Dairy Curve Kids' Club Game so all Kids' Clubbers will get in FREE for that game.

Altoona continues its seven-game road trip at 7:05 p.m. tonight in Reading to take on the Fightin Phils. The team returns home Friday, June 12 for the Gerrit Cole Cooler Bag Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans thanks to Ravine Ink & Thread.
