Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs News Release

ROANOKE, VA - Today, Cox Communications and Berglund Center announced the launch of WiFi hotspots for Cox High Speed Internet customers in Roanoke. As Cox customers visit Berglund Center to experience live entertainment, including sporting events and cultural and concert performances, they can also access WiFi hotspots located throughout the facility.

"To complement the incredibly fast speeds that Cox offers in the home, our customers want access to reliable high speed Internet wherever they go. Cox WiFi hotspots give our customers even more options to connect securely, and for free. We are excited to bring this service to the Berglund Center," said Jeff Merritt, Vice President of Roanoke operations.

As customer needs continue to change, especially with the explosive growth of smart phones, tablets and other connected devices, Cox WiFi allows access to reliable high speed Internet in the home and on the go. Customers of Cox's Preferred and above Internet service have free access to Cox WiFi hotspots as an additional value to their service.

"Enhancing our guests experience and providing reliable internet service to our clients is paramount to our success," said Berglund Center General Manager Robyn Schon. "For us, Cox WiFi is the right choice."

While on the go or traveling, Cox customers also have access to Cable WiFi, which is the nation's largest WiFi network of more than 400,000 hotspots, made possible by a collaboration of cable companies across the country. Launched in 2013, Cable WiFi gives cable customers access to hotspots that are strategically located in high-traffic areas such as restaurants, malls, beaches, sports arenas, and parks in cities that include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, and Phoenix - and now in Roanoke at Berglund Center.

Accessing CoxWiFi is simple. When customers are in a Cox WiFi hotspot, they will see the CoxWiFi network location (SSID) in the list of available networks on their wireless device. Customers simply enter their Cox user ID and password to log in to Cox WiFi. Once authenticated, they can browse the Internet as they would from home.

Cox customers who are looking for WiFi access can go to www.cox.com/hotspots and enter their current location to find nearby hotspots. Users can also click on a WiFi icon on the map or download the Cox Connect app for iPhone and Android devices and immediately access directions to or from the specific WiFi hotspot address. Once a user has logged into a CoxWiFi or CableWiFi hotspot, his or her wireless device will automatically recognize and log on to other Cox WiFi and Cable WiFi hotspots for up to two years.

The CoxWiFi launch is part of the company's commitment to provide the best high speed Internet service. Cox has increased Internet speeds more than 1,000 percent on its most popular packages over the past 14 years. Earlier this month, Cox announced the most recent in a series of speed increases in Roanoke, providing customers with its Ultimate high speed Internet service maximum download speed of 200 Mbps. Cox is also the first national communications provider to commit to a residential gigabit strategy for all of our customers in Virginia and will soon bring this service to the Valley. Cox Business has been offering 10Gbps internet service in Roanoke for several years to ensure that Cox Business customers continue to have the advanced services they need to succeed.
