Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, March 1, 2011) - Chivas USA fell 2-0 to the Canada Under-23 National Team in a scrimmage played on Tuesday afternoon at The Home Depot Center in Carson. After a first half in which the Red-and-White played well with their first group, the team made several subs and gave up two second half goals in the loss. Next up for Chivas USA is a scrimmage on Saturday night against UCLA.

The Red-and-White started the match in a 4-4-2, with a similar group to the one that began the game against D.C. United on Friday. Newly signed Marcos Mondaini served as an attacking midfielder, behind Alan Gordon and Tristan Bowen as the forwards. The team had a number of great chances in the first 45 minutes, but the Canada goalkeeper made several saves, and the post denied Gordon on one opportunity.

As the team made several substitutions throughout the second half, Canada took advantage of the Red-and-White, scoring off a set piece in the 62nd minute, with Russell Teibert serving a ball that Drew Beckie headed in. In the 84th minute, Canada counterattacked and got a second goal, this time with Randy Edwini-Bonsu applying the finish.

Despite the result, Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser was pleased with the performance of the group that started the match, saying to media after the game that he thought the first 45 minutes was among the team's best performances of preseason. Next up for the Red-and-White is a Saturday night match against UCLA, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Track and Field Stadium of The Home Depot Center.

Chivas USA continues preparation for the 2011 Home Opener on March 19 against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City. Season Seats for 2011 are now on sale, with prices remaining at the same low rates as 2010. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com .
