Toronto, ON (June 28, 2006) - The 2006 CFL season enters Week #3 as the East and West divisions clash for the first time this year. The weekend of games is highlighted by a Canada Day celebration at Canad Inns Stadium as the Edmonton Eskimos take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Here's a look at this week's match-ups:
EAST vs. WEST
Interdivisional rivalries heat up for the first time this season as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Calgary Stampeders, the Toronto Argonauts tangle with the B.C. Lions and the Edmonton Eskimos travel east to play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Last season, West Division teams had a 23-17 record against their East counterparts. The West included the Blue Bombers last season, with the Ottawa Renegades playing in the East Division.
The last time the East Division had a winning record against the West was in 2001 when they went 21-11, the last time the Blue Bombers were in the East.
There is no divisional advantage in the previous 10 Grey Cups, with the East and West sharing a record of 5-5.
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS vs. CALGARY STAMPEDERS

The Breakdown
- Hamilton will try to become only the second team this season to win on the road. Ironically, the only road win came at Ivor Wynne when the Alouettes defeated the Ticats 32-14.
- Quarterbacks Jason Maas and Henry Burris rank fourth and fifth respectively among QBs this season. Both pivots are hovering around a passer efficiency rating of 68.
- Early in the 2006 season, Calgary has the best turnover ratio at +5 while Hamilton is struggling at -4, second worst in the League.
- In two games against the Eskimos, the Stampeders defence held star running back Troy Davis to just 84 yards. The Stamps have also been successful on the opposite side of the rushing attack. Running back Joffrey Reynolds leads the League in yards gained on the ground, rushing for 226 yards on 26 carries.
- Hamilton slotback Terry Vaughn has 11 receptions this season, leaving him 15 receptions short of tying the all-time record in career receptions held by Darren Flutie (972).
- Burris needs to complete 16 passes to reach 1,000 for his career.
The last time...
...These two clubs met was on October 14 of last season. Calgary defeated Hamilton 34-17 at McMahon Stadium.
...Hamilton began their season 0-2 was in 2005 and 2003. Both years the Tabbies went on to miss the playoffs.
...Reynolds faced the Tiger-Cats he scampered for 113 yards on 20 carries.
...Hamilton defeated Calgary was August 27, 2004, 27-6.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS vs. BC LIONS

The Breakdown...
- The Argonauts enter the third week of the season with quarterback Spergon Wynn at the helm.
- The Argos offence was held to a dismal 72 yards of offence last week against the Bombers. Ricky Williams had a mere 14 yards on eight touches.
- When it comes to the rushing attack, the Lions are having troubles of their own. Through two games, BC has only managed to rush for 85 yards, 55 coming from QB Dave Dickenson.
- 2006 interception leader Korey Banks has zero picks with the Lions this season.
- Adding depth to their quarterback position, the Argos signed Darnell Kennedy to a contract this week.
- The injury bug has plagued the Lions receiving corps. Receivers Jason Clermont and Tony Simmons are both expected to miss Friday's game.
- BC has scored on their opening drive in both contests this season.
The last time...
...These two clubs met was back on July 15, 2005. The Lions defeated the Argos 30-22, taking the season series 2-0.
...Dickenson played against the Argos he was sacked four times. The last three games Dickenson has faced Toronto he has been brought down behind the line of scrimmage a total of 12 times.
...BC receiver Geroy Simon played against Toronto he hauled in six passes or 140 yards and scored an 83-yard touchdown.
EDMONTON ESKIMOS vs. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

The Breakdown...
- Winnipeg ranks first in 13 of 25 defensive categories. Through two games this season, their defence has held opponents to a combined 36 points, while only scoring 33 themselves.
- Winnipeg has only scored two offensive touchdowns this season, both coming on opening drives.
- Edmonton's Jason Tucker ranks first among receivers in yards with 236.
- Edmonton linebacker A.J. Gass is expected to return from injury.
The last time....
...These two clubs met was on July 15, 2005, with the Eskimos winning 14-12 at Canad Inns Stadium.
...Winnipeg beat Edmonton was on August 12, 2004, 25-14.
...These two clubs met on Canada was in 2003 at Canad Inns Stadium. Winnipeg came away with a 14-12 victory.
