Madison Capitols News Release
Middleton, WI - History repeated itself on Saturday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena as the Madison Capitols (donning USA replica jerseys) demolished the Green Bay Gamblers (wearing replica USSR jerseys) by a final score of 4-1 for Be the Miracle event.
The night payed homage to the 1980 Men's Olympic hockey game dubbed the "Miracle on Ice" where Team USA defeated the dominant USSR in the medal match. Bob Suter, the namesake of the Capitols organization, was one of the men who went to Lake Placid and came away with the biggest upset in sports history.
Carson Bantle opened the scoring with 54 seconds remaining in the second period on a power play goal assisted by Stepan Pokorny for his 17th mark of the season.
Green Bay retaliated early in the 3rd period on a snipe from Chad Hillebrand, but it was all Madison on the scoresheet following the goal.
Reid Pabich netted his 13th of the year past Gavin Enright before Pokorny lit the lamp for the second straight night to add an insurance goal. Bantle iced the game with 11 seconds remaining as he launched the puck 175 feet for his second of the evening.
Christian Stoever stood on his head, making 41 saves on the evening en route to the victory. The game worn jerseys from tonight's game are currently up for auction live at https://web.dashapp.io/auctions/madisoncapitols, as well as on the Dash App on your smart devices.
The Capitols close out the three-in-three weekend at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Sunday, February 23rd for their first ever Hockey is for Everyone game at 3:05pm.
If you can't make it out to the game, make sure to tune into Mixlr and HockeyTV to get the live call from broadcaster, Cody Lefkowitz.
