June 23, 2013 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
New Jersey 7, Fargo-Moorhead 6
Bryan Sabatella's three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth propelled New Jersey to a comeback victory over Fargo-Moorhead, 7-6. The Jackals trailed 5-4 before Sabatella delivered with his fifth homer of the season, giving New Jersey its first and only lead of the game.
The RedHawks, however, did not go down easily in the ninth. Tim Adleman came in for New Jersey to close out the game, but Fargo-Moorhead rallied to pull within one run. Buddy Sosnoskie reached base with a leadoff single and scored on a two-out single by Nic Jackson. After the Jackson single, C.J. Retherford delivered a single of his own, moving Jackson to third. The RedHawks had the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on first, but Adleman induced a flyout to centerfield to end the game.
Quebec 14, Newark 3
One monster inning by Quebec put the game out of reach early on, as the Capitales beat Newark, 14-3. Quebec plated seven runs in the second inning on a grand slam by Asif Shah and a three-run home run by Sebastien Boucher. The Capitales tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a Josue Peley homer and added four to their total in the fifth.
On the mound, Jeff Kaplan nearly went the distance. The right-hander gave up two earned runs over eight innings on seven hits. Kaplan improved to 3-1 with the victory.
Rockland 10, Trois-Rivieres 6
Stephen Cardullo led a late charge for the Boulders, as Rockland beat Trois-Rivieres, 10-6. Cardullo gave the Boulders their first lead of the game with a two-run home run in the seventh, erasing a one-run deficit. Rockland added an insurance run later in the inning on a Scott Knazek RBI double and Cardullo tacked on two more with a two-run single in the eighth. At the end of the day, Cardullo was 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBI.
