Can-Am League Game Recaps
June 12, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Quebec 4, Rockland 3
The score was tied in the bottom of the ninth. Bases were loaded for the Quebec Capitales, but it wasn't one of their own players with the heroics. It was a wild pitch that scored 3B Tyler Young to give the Capitales the walk-off 4-3 win over the Rockland Boulders. In each of the top of the eighth and ninth innings, Rockland scored once, but Quebec found a way to tie both times.
Young led the Capitales with a 2-for-3 performance and three runs, including the two in the last two innings. CF Jared McDonald and 1B Charlie Law had two hits apiece for the Boulders. Rockland received a nice, quality start from Bo Budkevics, who went seven innings with just two earned runs and six strikeouts.
New Jersey 3, Shikoku Island 0
In the first exhibition of Shikoku Island's tour of the Can-Am League, the New Jersey Jackals shut them out 3-0. DH Mark Threlkeld's sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. The Jackals wouldn't score again until the eighth, when LF Justin Trapp launched a solo homer, and 3B Jared Schlehuber hit an RBI single.
The combined shutout for New Jersey came with the help of three pitchers. Starter Isaac Pavlik went seven strong with five strikeouts. LHP Brandon Sisk and LHP Donnie Joseph each threw an inning to close out the game. 2B Daiki Masuda and C Kosei Kawahara led Shikoku Island with two hits each.
Amarillo 6, Trois-Rivieres 3
In an interleague match, starting pitcher Anthony Figliolia led the Amarillo Thunderheads in defeating the Trois-Rivieres Aigles 6-3. Figliolia picked up the win after seven innings pitched with three earned runs allowed and four strikeouts. Batting highlights for Amarillo include an RBI double by SS Juan Martinez and an RBI single by 1B Rene Leveret in the first inning. In the fourth, back-to-back singles by 2B Geraldo Valentin and CF Drew Heid scored three players.
Trois-Rivieres scored two in the first inning off a SS Pedro Lopez RBI triple and then a 2B Jose Cuevas RBI double. RHP Jadd Schmeltzer closed out the game for the Aigles on the mound with two scoreless innings pitched.
