Bulldogs Score for the 'Cycle' as they defeat the Barons

CLEVELAND, OH - The Hamilton Bulldogs scored for the 'cycle' when they defeated the Cleveland Barons 5-1 at the National City Rink at Gund Arena on Tuesday night.  The Bulldogs scored a power play goal, a shorthanded goal, a penalty shot goal, and two even strength goals in the contest.

 

After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs Jason Ward opened the game's scoring at the 3:24 mark of the second period on the power play.  Hamilton defenceman Philippe Plante took the initial shot from the point, and Ward picked up the rebound and fired it past Barons' goaltender Dimitri Patzold.

 

The Bulldogs' Gavin Morgan would then score a shorthanded goal at 9:11, as he exploded for a breakaway and deked out Patzold to record his second goal of the season.

 

Then just over two minutes later, at 11:14, Bulldogs forward Chris Higgins was awarded a penalty shot, after being hauled down, while breaking in on the Barons goal.  Higgins, made the most of his penalty shot opportunity, by scoring and giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

 

The Bulldogs recorded a season high 17 shots in the second period.

 

Hamilton completed the 'cycle' of goals in the contest when Tomas Plekanec scored his fifth goal of the season at 6:15 of the third period.  Ott and Ward picked up assists on Plekanec's goal.

 

Bulldogs rookie Michael Lambert rounded out the Bulldogs scoring by earning his first career AHL goal, an unassisted marker, at 13:14.

 

Cleveland's Patrick Rissmiller broke Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis' shutout, as he scored his third goal of the season with just one minute remaining in regulation.

 

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis improved his record to five wins and one loss on the season, by stopped 28 Cleveland shots. Patzold made 36 saves in the Barons loss.

 

The Bulldogs will host the Barons in back-to-back games at Copps Coliseum on Friday, November 5th at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, November 6th at 7:00 p.m., respectively.
