BlueClaws Produce Topps Attax National Champion

June 29, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws, single-A affiliate of the Phillies, have produced a National Champion, and he won his title at Citi Field, home of the Mets.

Matthew Kaminstein, of Allentown, NJ, won a BlueClaws qualifying tournament at FirstEnergy Park on May 22nd and last weekend won the national championship in Queens.

"Obviously, we're very excited that Matt went on to win the national championship after qualifying at our ballpark," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "But we're more excited that he was able to claim victory in the Mets home park."

In Topps Attax, a game produced by Topps Baseball Cards, players select a "line-up" based on the cards in their set and are matched up with an opponent who does the same. Each card has a value, based on the baseball player on each card, and match-ups lead to runs and ultimately a winner.

Former BlueClaws like Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels have won World Series championships and the BlueClaws have won the South Atlantic League title in 2006 and 2009, but this is the first time the BlueClaws have produced a national champion card game player.

BlueClaws Director of Group Sales Jim McNamara qualified for the 2007 National Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship, but was eliminated in the first round.

The BlueClaws have led the South Atlantic League in attendance in all ten years of existence. They recently won the South Atlantic League Northern Division first-half championship and will look to defend their 2009 SAL title in September.

Tickets for all remaining BlueClaws regular season games are on sale by calling 732-901-7000 or online at BlueClaws.com.
