Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Lakewood, NJ - The BlueClaws (27-33) fell in extra innings to the Lake County Captains (31-28), Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, on Saturday night with a 4-2 loss. It was the BlueClaws second loss in a row to the Captains despite out hitting Lake County 12-8.
The Captains plated two runs in the top of the 10th to take a 4-2 lead. The Captains were helped out by a hit batter and a wild pitch in the frame. After back-to-back singles with one out in the inning Chris De La Cruz connected for an RBI single to give the Captains a 3-2 lead. Brian Finegan was then hit by a pitch to load the bases up and then wild pitch scored Juan Valdes from third to give the Captains a 4-2 lead.
Cory Dueitt (1-5) recorded the loss in relief allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work.
Derek Griffith pitched nine innings but got the no decision allowing two runs on five hits. Griffith walked just two and struck out seven.
Lakewood entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 2-1 but tied the game up with two outs. Greg Golson got the rally started with a two-out single. Brad Harman followed up with base hit that was dribbled down the third base line.
Matt Whitney threw over to first baseman Fernando Pacheco who dropped the ball when Harman arrived at the bag the same time the ball did. The ball went into short right field and Golson never stopped running coming around to score to tie the game at 2-2.
Griffith made just two mistakes in the game with his first coming in the third inning. With one out in the inning Tim Montgomery connected for a solo home run to put the Captains up 1-0. Griffith got two quick strikes on the batter but Montgomery worked the count into a 3-2 count. Montgomery then connected for his sixth homer of the year over the right field wall.
Griffith ran into trouble again in the sixth inning with the score tied at 1-1. After retiring the first two batters of the inning Matt Whitney connected for a single then Pacheco walked. Chris Gimenez then followed up with an RBI double plating Whitney to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.
The BlueClaws tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a one out RBI single from Harman. Josh Mader led off the inning with a bunt single then moved up to second on a wild pitch. Mader advanced to third on Golson's ground out then came around to score on Harman's two-out single.

Woodrow (0-0, 2.74) to the mound while the Captains will counter with left-hander Chuck Lufgren (5-4, 2.37).
