Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa.-In conjunction with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Tim Gray, the WWII Foundation and Jordan Brown of HangTough6644.org, the Barnstormers will pay homage to Major Richard "Dick" Winters and the men of Easy Company in a special tribute night on Monday, June 6, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The tribute-on the 67th anniversary of D-Day- and the first since Maj. Winters' death, is primarily to raise funds and awareness for the Richard Winters Leadership Project. It will feature a memorable pre-game ceremony with Original Easy Company Veterans of the 101st Airborne Division, cast members of HBO's Band of Brothers, time period singing performances, a variety of rare World War II and Easy Company memorabilia up for auction, restored World War II vehicles and World War II re-enactors. The Barnstormers will even wear custom 101st Airborne Division-inspired jerseys, which will be auctioned during the game.
Surviving Easy Company Veterans Brad Freeman, Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron will be in attendance, as will Band of Brothers cast members Ross McCall, James Madio and Frank John Hughes. During the pre-game ceremony, the Vets and cast members will speak to the crowd about Winters and Easy Company, while displaying their own dynamic personalities. The Vets and cast members will also be on hand for an exclusive sold-out meet and greet during the game.
A portion of the proceeds from each game ticket purchased for this unique event, as well as the VIP reception, jersey and memorabilia auction will benefit the Richard Winters Leadership Project. This initiative is focused on raising funds to erect a monument of Winters in Normandy, France, and to produce an educational documentary about his life and leadership skills. The documentary will be produced by Tim Gray Media and will be supplied to schools statewide, and beyond. The total goal needed for the monument and documentary is around $260,000.
The Easy Company Vets and Band of Brothers cast members will be available for interviews from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the day of the event. The Band of Brothers cast members will also be available for phone interviews leading up to the event. All media requests for interviews should be directed to Barnstormers assistant general manager Kristen Simon at (717) 509-2033.
Gates will open at 5:15 p.m., with the pre-game ceremony to start shortly thereafter and Barnstormers game starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for this event range from just $7 to $12. Great seats are still available at the Faulkner Chevrolet box office, by calling 717-509-HITS or by visiting LancasterBarnstormers.com.
