NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced that on Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd the GreenJackets will take the field as the Augusta Pimento Cheese.
"We knew that if we wanted to represent the CSRA in a food related promotion that pimento cheese was the only way to go. Everyone in the country ties pimento cheese to this area" said General Manager, Brandon Greene.
The GreenJackets sought a new team name to highlight a signature staple piece of the CSRA, the Pimento Cheese. The GreenJackets collaborated with Brandiose (same company that created the GreenJackets new logo going into the Inaugural Season in 2018) to come up with the re-brand. The re-brand features a new Pimento Cheese logo and custom Pimento Cheese uniforms and will feature new merchandise both online and in-store at the Hive Pro Shop, including New Era baseball caps, t-shirts and more. "This is a staff wide idea that started at our staff retreat a couple years ago. We are excited that this idea has come full circle today with the debut of the Augusta Pimento Cheese" stated General Manager Brandon Greene.
The Pimento Cheese will be a two-night only re-brand for the GreenJackets. The team will sport its new uniform against the Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies) on Friday and on Saturday against the Hickory Crawdads (Texas Rangers).
These nights will include different food selections with pimento cheese, pimento cheese in-game promotions and then on Saturday, August 3rd, the GreenJackets will host the Pimento Cheese player jersey auction with proceeds going to benefit Walton Options for Independent Living.
Fans are encouraged to share their Pimento Cheese merchandise on social media using #AUGPimentoCheese for a chance to be highlighted during the Pimento Cheese weekend on the videoboard and also to be entered in to win a Pimento Cheese Prize pack which includes four tickets to the one of the Pimento Cheese nights.
About the Hats and Jerseys:
The cap features the traditional Pimento Cheese sandwich with pimento cheese exploding out the sides, a red pin flag to pay homage to the rich golf culture in the CSRA, and golf ball eyes with green olives as the eyeballs.
With the jersey, we went with the idea of having a literal Pimento Cheese on the sides of the uniform. The front plate features the official name, "Augusta Pimento Cheese", and the left arm sleeve features the alternate Pimento Cheese logo.
