Atlanta Legends Game Preview
February 21, 2019 - Alliance of American Football (AAF)
Atlanta Legends News Release
The Legends return for their home opener at Georgia State Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 24 looking for their first victory of the season after suffering two losses at Orlando and at San Diego to begin the 2019 season.
The Legends took an early 9-0 against the Fleet with a 29-yard field goal by K Younghoe Koo and the first touchdown in team history on a 19-yard reception from WR Malachi Jones from QB Matt Simms to close out the first half. Atlanta's defense proved opportunistic as the Legends defense forced two big turnovers on a CB Carlos Merrett interception and fumble recovery by S Tyson Graham Jr. The Fleet managed to get their ground game going in the second half and amassed 110 yards rushing on their way to a total of 185 yards with two rushing scores to propel them to a 24-12 victory.
The Birmingham Iron make the short trip to Atlanta for a Eastern Conference showdown with a 2-0 record after two home wins to begin the season.
GOING ON A HOME RUN
With four of the next five games at home, The Legends will be attempt- ing to put a run together in their own backyard. After this week's contest, Atlanta travels to Arizona for a date with the Hotshots and then comes home for three straight home games against Memphis, San Antonio and Orlando. The Legends will look to capitalize on this home stretch and get back into the Eastern Conference race and it all starts with an encounter against the Iron this week.
THE ALLIANCE RULES
The innovative and creative new Alliance of American Football will employ some new rules to enhance the game for players and fans. There are no kickoffs and the ball is placed at the 25-yard line as the game begins with a First Snap. There is a mandatory two-point conversion attempt instead of kicking any points after touchdowns. To speed up the game, there is also a 35 second play clock.
