Arlington Renegades News Release

ARLINGTON, TX - The United Football League, the premier spring football league, has announced the results of its initial player dispersal process.

Each remaining XFL Conference and USFL Conference team protected 42 foundational players from its 2023 roster. Each team in each of the XFL and USFL Conferences were then allowed to select up to 20 players from the rosters of teams from their previous league that will not be moving forward in 2024. That process was completed Friday.

The Renegades were able to lock in 55 players (42 foundational/13 selected) as they prepare their roster for the 2024 season. Out of the foundational players, the Renegades protected XFL Championship Game MVP quarterback Luis Perez. Perez, who began the season with the Vegas Vipers, later joined the Renegades, and led the team to a championship, after defeating the D.C. Defenders 35-26, as he threw for 288 yards with three touchdowns. He completed the 2023 season throwing for a total of 1,636 yards and nine touchdowns. Other familiar names who were protected were leading rusher De'Veon Smith and defensive standout Donald Payne.

Among the 13 players the Renegades selected from other XFL teams, seven came from the 2023 Houston Roughnecks roster, including wide receiver Deontay Burnett, who led in touchdowns with six in just nine games. He completed the season, second overall in receiving for the Roughnecks, averaging 14.0 yards per game, with 27 receptions for 378 yards. Another top selection the Renegades chose, was linebacker Vic Beasley of the Vegas Vipers. Beasley completed the 2023 season with 15 tackles (nine solo, six assisted).

Players not protected or selected in this initial process will be placed in a pool of players who will be available for all UFL teams to choose from, regardless of previous league, in another round of player dispersal on Jan. 15.
