
Ams Prepare For WHL Bantam Draft Tomorrow

Kennewick, WA â Tri-City Americans will select seventh overall in the Western Hockey League's 15th annual Bantam Draft to be held tomorrow morning in the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.
The draft serves as an identification process for players born in 1990 and for the 20 current member clubs in the WHL to add players to their respective 50-protected player lists.
In all, 17 of the Americans 29 players on the clubs playoff roster were WHL Bantam Draft selections including seven, first round draft picks. Those choices include Ian McDonald (Tri-City 1999), Logan Stephenson (Tri-City 2001), Carey Price (Tri-City 2002), Joel Broda (Tri-City 2004), Shawn Belle (Regina 1999), Aaron Boogaard (Calgary 2001) and Andy Thompson (Kootenay 1998).
Three members of the squad were second round picks by the Americans including Marc Connors (1999), Jason Beeman (2001) and Kirk Meaver (2002).
Players eligible for the bantam draft of 1990 born players may be drafted from the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and the Yukon. The states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Following the entry draft, all WHL teams may add 1990 born players to their 50-player protected list.
